After five long days, today was the last day of Eastlake Kids Camp 2018. I've been working at Eastlake Church for almost 6 months and I can say that this past week has been a huge learning experience. I work with children every single weekend and over the months, I've been able to get to know some kids and their families. This week changed everything, I got to spend up to 8 hours every day of this week with 200 amazing kids that are part of my community. Some of them I knew before and others I got the chance to form relationships with. I discovered the true importance of human connection. Human connection is something that at times I take for granted because I spend time with people every single day and I feel like I'm always connection, but am I really? I'm with people at home, at work, pretty much everywhere. So, I feel like I forget how much as humans we long for connection. To experience, how easy it was to get close with the kids at my community, for us to form bonds, and even miss each other every afternoon after our day camp was over... was shocking. Do not underestimate the importance of human connection and how a five minute conversation can make a huge difference in someone's life. Giving the kids in my community a chance to express themselves and making sure that they know that they are loved, they are valued, and that the belong was the best experience of this summer so far. Make connections matter.
